a lot of people are saying she doesn't get that much, from what i'm reading, and that she's treated the same but while i played p5, these are the things i noticed: ryuji and ann were the first to join the party and thus should be the ones who are closest to joker but it's always makoto who gets the spotlight. While i feel like makoto had a lot of potential, i do agree that she gets too much screentime at times. I know this thread is pretty old but i came across it and i just wanted to throw my two cents in here! i'm new to reddit so i'm very sorry if i do something incorrectly! I just hope Persona 6 doesn't make the same mistakes and treats characters with equal importance rather than focusing on one for the sake of the plot. I have seen others already calling her Mary Sue and you could even mistake her for an attention whore but it's all Atlus' doing.
I have a feeling one day when Persona 6 is out, people will take a look back and say that Makoto shouldn't have had all this focus put on her. Her development hindered everyone else's and made theirs seem so much less important. It shows that Atlus was putting too much focus on one character which to me is a flaw in story telling.
People often talk about Akira's canon relationship and the Futaba arc moments are always brought up as ship tease but I actually don't find those moments to be a good thing. Even though, Makoto isn't very focused on when it comes to things like adaptations or promotional material, within the game she is just handed so much attention that it makes everyone else on the team seem smaller. I believe this time around, Atlus is very guilty of favoritism. All characters felt equal and were treated fairly. Even characters like Ann and Ryuji, who still have their moments are felt to be much less important. New characters are giving their moments then thrown aside in favor of Makoto. I find it kinda disheartening and unfair. Unlike anyone else in the group, Makoto completely eclipses everyone else. I mean everyone still relies on Joker but was it really necessary for Makoto to become more important than Akira at times? Some times, you'd actually forget who the main character is. Queen just sounds like it has way more authority than Joker.Īt some point, I have to feel like Morgana who felt useless.

I find this a bit disrespectful to the player's character because she basically takes over as the brains of the team and has a code name that even implies way more authority. She is connected so heavily to a very important character, Sae Niijima-that the game is constantly giving you her point of view and focusing on her as if she's a deurotagonist. I believe this is done because Makoto is used as a bit of a plot device. The biggest problem for Makoto is despite her getting her moment to shine during her palace. I will however say that she is handled very poorly and Atlus made some very poor decisions with her that is often overlooked.
